A Legacy of Musical Excellence and Community Engagement
Founded in 1937, St. Joseph’s Pipe Band has proudly upheld a tradition of musical excellence for nearly a century. Over the years, we have earned prestigious World Championship titles in both Grade 2 and Grade 3A in addition to multiple All-Ireland titles.
At the heart of St. Joseph’s Pipe Band is a commitment to fostering new talent and sharing the joy of piping and drumming with the local community. Our mission extends beyond competition – we actively engage in music education by providing tuition to beginner-level members, welcoming individuals from all walks of life.
Recently, we launched our Academy Band, a platform dedicated to introducing children, teenagers and adults to the rich traditions of piping and drumming. Alongside our established competition band, the academy band plays a vital role in ensuring the future in the community.
We are based on the Old Nangor Road, in the heart of Clondalkin Village where we hold year-round piping and drumming classes, offering indoor rehearsals from October through April and moving outdoors during the competition season from May to August.
Our flexible practice schedule reflects the demands of both competitive preparation and community performances. We also make use of local venues such as the Clondalkin Community Centre and Rua Red (Tallaght) to accommodate our evolving needs. We have also been kindly supported by Muintir Chrónáin through the use of the fantastic facilities at Áras Chrónáin in Clondalkin village.
A Focus on Competition and Community
St. Joseph’s Pipe Band is deeply rooted in the competitive world of pipe bands. We are proud to represent Irish piping and drumming on both national and international stages. We perform a diverse repertoire, ranging from traditional Irish and Scottish music to contemporary pieces, including original compositions by our talented members.
In addition to competition, we are deeply committed to engaging with the local community. We regularly participate in local parades, festivals, and charity events.
Highlights include leading the St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Parades in Clondalkin, joint performances with the Garda Band, and appearances at various charity events, such as the upcoming Our Lady’s Hospital Fundraiser. Our involvement in community activities also extends to GAA events, where we have proudly supported Dublin GAA after their 2017 All-Ireland win.
Recent Highlights include a Virgin Media TV appearance by our Junior Academy Band members and musical director to promote the Leinster Pipe Band Championships and performing in front of a crowd of over 70,000 at Croke Park during the All Ireland Senior Football Championship Quarter Finals in June 2025.
